My areas of interest and research include the Spanish language, culture, and history, specifically Latin America. More specifically, my research analyzes the rise and fall of the Pinochet dictatorship, and the social, gender, and political history of Chile. College-level classes I have taken pertaining to my areas of study include Latin American Revolutions, Colonial Latin America, Modern Latin America, Spanish Phonology, Adaptations in the Hispanic Creative Industries, Trends in Spanish American Literature: Spanish American Women Writers, Hispanic Film, Readings in Latin American Cultures, and the completion of several independent study projects on the following topics:
- An analysis of the Chilean novel La brecha by Mercedes Valdivieso
- Chilean women’s history focusing on women’s literature from Los Centros de Madres and two women’s lifestyle magazines, Eva and Paula.
- The teaching of the Pinochet dictatorship through arts in select Santiago schools. I created and taught my own lesson plan in three different schools in Santiago. https://digitalcollections.sit.edu/isp_collection/3093/
- An analysis of the teaching of the Pinochet Dictatorship and Human Rights through interviews with Chilean secondary school teachers, university professors, and those involved in curriculum design, museum education, and human rights activism.
